Augusta's Story

Services for Augusta L. "Gussie" Killion, age 92, will be conducted by Clint Satterwhite and Nelda Hopper of Palestine, Texas at 4:00 pm Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Lone Pine Baptist Church, Palestine, Texas. Visitation will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday prior to the funeral services at the church. Burial will be in Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Gussie went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Cartmell Home for Aged in Palestine where she had resided since 2008. She was born the youngest of twelve children on March 2, 1925, to Roy and Ollie Lyons Grasty of Palestine.
Gussie graduated from Palestine High School in 1944 and Nixon Business College. She worked as a legal secretary for Henry Jordan before starting her own business as a licensed beautician. She was employed by Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the medical department of the Beto Unit in Tennessee Colony until she retired. Gussie loved gardening, scrapbooking, playing dominoes, dancing, and baking. She was an excellent cook as all her family can attest to. She loved baking cookies for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Lone Pine Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ollie Lyons Grasty; seven brothers and four sisters; and a granddaughter, Niki Satterwhite. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, David and Carla Killion of Palestine, Smokey and Judy Killion of Palestine, and Lorraine and Chip Satterwhite of Tennessee Colony. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, one great great-grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons - Justin Killion, Jeremy Killion, Wes Killion, Coy Killion, Jes Satterwhite, and Clint Satterwhite. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.
