Darrell's Story

Darrell Eugene Nelson Hall, Sr., age 70, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Tx. after a lengthy illness. He was born September 3, 1946 in Lubbock, Texas to Ruth Mary Louise (Meyer) Nelson and Emerson Eugene Nelson.
Darrell attended school in Odessa, Texas until moving to Waco, Texas where he graduated high school before returning to West Texas. He married Syble Gail Karnes on March 26, 1966 in Odessa, Texas where they met as teenagers. They were married 48 years when she preceded him in death on May 29, 2014.
Darrell is survived by his four children, Darrell Eugene Nelson Hall, Jr. and wife Charlene, Christopher William Nelson Hall and wife Misti, Bryan Lee Hall and wife Neeli, and daughter Joy Delaine Hall Tillman and husband Dickie Tillman. He is also survived by their six grandchildren, Alyssa Lea Lavender, Grace Darrian Hall, Christopher Nelson Hall, Kaitlin Lee Hall, Emili Morgan Hall, Slade Nelson Hall, and Dylan Tillman. Surviving siblings are Patsy Ruth Nelson Hall Laufer, Barbara Ann Nelson Hall Birdwell and Michael James Robert Nelson Hall. Surviving him are many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their uncle "Dee".
Darrell was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and stationed overseas in Stutgart, Germany serving as a member of the Military Police. Upon his return home in 1968, he entered the oilfield service industry with Homco International. He eventually started his own oilfield service company, January 1995 in Palestine, Texas. 4-H Oilfield Services was a vital part of the East Texas oil industry as well as the West Texas Permian Basin and Louisiana. He has been retired for several years. He loved traveling with his wife, Gail, chasing the West Texas sunsets to Tombstone, AZ and back. It is fitting that he passed away at 12:00 P.M. (High Noon). He was known for his heavily starched jeans, shirts and cowboy boots. He was a true family man whose greatest pleasure was making sure everyone enjoyed life as much as he did. Darrell and Gail's home was always open to friends, family, and even strangers where laughter, fun, and lots of good food was shared. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Hall, Jr. Chris Hall, Bryan Hall, Christopher Hall, Slade Hall and Jake Holliday.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Culture of Faith Church, in Elkhart with Pastor Gary Lanier officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to and provided by Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M at the church.
