Derrell's Story

Derrell K. "DK" Robertson went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at his home in Palestine, Texas with his family members attending. He was born in Anderson County on August 5, 1930 to William F. Robertson and Eunice Sutherlin Robertson.
DK joined the army at an early age, and after receiving training as a medic was assigned to General McArthur's headquarters in Tokyo. While there he volunteered for a secret commando type unit, the GHQ Raider Company. After receiving training in guerilla warfare, the Raiders were sent to Korea, where they infiltrated at Pusan with orders to create havoc behind the lines a diversion away from the Marines landing at Inchon. From there, DK and the raiders fought their way North all the way to the Yalu River and finally wound up with the Marines at the Chosin Resevoir.
After coming home DK spent 28 years in law enforcement, serving the Dallas PD, Palestine PD, Ector County SO, and the Anderson County SO. He was also a founding member of the Lone Pine VFD for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bobbie Ruth Robertson, son Derrel and stepson Larry Foster. He is survived by his wife, Nelda, daughter Yvonne Galloway and husband Ed, son David and wife Carolyn, stepchildren Channa Cobble, Donna Dean and husband Ricky, and Kerry Chandler and wife Tavana, along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dr. Ron Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
Pallbearers will be the Vietnam Veterans and honorary pallbearers will be The Chosin Few and Richard (Kewpie) Brumley, DK's long life friend.
