A graveside service for Don M. Carr, age 80, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 2 o'clock in the afternoon Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Still Waters Memorial Gardens with Rev. R.S. Dyess officiating. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Mr. Carr passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Jacksonville.
Don was born July 22, 1937 in Palestine to Milton and Lela (Collier) Carr.
In the mid 1960's, Don was instrumental in building the first self-serve gas station. He was Co-owner of Carr Oil Co. and was Chief Control Operator at Cherokee Co. Sheriff's Office for 14 years. Don was an active member of Texas Oil Marketer's Association and was a past president of Cherokee Country Club of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sue Rodden.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 58 ½ years, Glenda Carr of Jacksonville; son, Kerry Carr and wife Theresa of Jacksonville; daughter, Donna Frenkel and husband Carl of Austin; brother, Randy Hall and wife Gwen of Palestine and sister, Betty Lemley of Chandler.
Pallbearers will be Cameron Carr, Carrington "Bubba" Carr, Chase Carr, Chance Carr, Collier Frenkel and Lance Philbrick. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Dyess, Mark Dupus, Tom Walton, Jr., Brent Dickson, Joey Willis and Carl Frenkel.
Visitation will begin on Friday, January 19, 2018 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Don's family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Memorials may be made in memory of Don Carr to Cherokee County Sheriff's Department Memorial Fund.
