Edith's Story

Edith West Deerman, age 91, of Palestine, went to rejoice with her heavenly Father in heaven on Friday, the 15th day of September, 2017. Edith was born to George W. West and Marie Kirchenbauer West on the 30th day of March, 1926 in Anderson County, Texas. She was a loving wife to her husband, James Harold Deerman who preceded her in death in 1983. She was a devoted Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church of Palestine for over 70 years. She loved to teach others about Jesus and served as a Sunday School teacher for 63 years. She was blessed with the ability to cook and loved to cook for other people. Since she loved helping others so much, she also served as a volunteer at the Cartmell Home for the aged. Edith spent over 54 years working in the banking industry and was a vice-president at the time she retired. During her many years in the banking industry, she worked at Royal National Bank, 1st National Bank, and Regions Bank to name a few.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, George W. West and Marie Kirchenbauer West; husband, James H. Deerman; sister, Gloria Dyer; and brother, Valton West.
She is survived by her daughters, Martha Angell & husband Gary of Bryan, Texas, and Marilyn Bolt & husband Steve of Lufkin, Texas; brother, Dan West of Rusk, Texas; grandchildren, Stacy Curtis, Sarah Bunce, and Randall Bolt; great-grandchildren, Ian Curtis, Cameron Curtis, Stephen Bolt, Michael Bolt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Sunday, the 17th day of September, 2017 in the parlor and reflection room at Rhone Funeral Home.
A funeral service and a celebration of Edith's life will be held at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 18th of September, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Palestine with Bro. Jack Chelf officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Walt Curtis, Jeff Bunce, Randall Bolt, Larry Dublin, Bob Karch, and Skip Birtman.
