Services for Edward Johnson, age 84 of Palestine will be held Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Lone Pine Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Johnson died Monday October 24, 2016 at his residence. He was born December 31, 1931 in Leon County near Oakwood. He was known by many names: Ed, H.D., Dee and Dee Boy. He served his country in the Army and spent 16 months in Korea. He retired from union Pacific Railroad as a machinist.
He loved his church and enjoyed going on mission trips with the youth and help cook for them. He went on adult mission trips and was also designated driver for the Senior Adults on their trips. He loved to hunt, fish, camp and travel.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Gerald, Doyle, and Bobby. Surviving are his son Michael of El Reno, OK., daughter Beverly Stevens and husband Benny of Oakwood, two grandsons, Justin and Jake Stevens, one granddaughter Jamie Johnson, four great grandchildren, brother James and wife Sara of Little Rock, AR., sisters-in-law Toni, Anna and Joyce, his loving wife Dorothy Tryon Johnson and her extended family, Dennis, Tony, Bruce and Lori and their families.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be , Clint Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Mark Johnson, John Johnson, Jerry Johnson, and Ricky Naismith. Honorary pallbearers will be the men from Lone Pine Baptist Church and Stanley Stevens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oakwood City Cemetery.
