Elda's Story

Funeral services for Elda M. Becker, 93, of Palestine will be at 10 am Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jordan Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mrs. Becker passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
She was born July 30, 1923, in Almena County, Kansas to Curtis E. and Rosella Colip Sprague. She had resided in Palestine since 1945 and was a member of the First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also led a Boy Scout Troop for a number of years. Mrs. Becker had been the President and Chief Financial Officer for many years of the Trinity Valley Teachers Credit Union. She was a member of the Altrusa Club and voted "Altruson of the Year" 2004-2005 and on September 15, 2000, was selected East Texan of the Week. She was a member of the Grace Quilters for many years and member of the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston. Mrs. Becker was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John C. Becker in 2004; and a son, James C. Becker in 1970.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet M. Becker of Houston; brothers, Harry Sprague and wife Phoebe of Red Cloud, Nebraska and Leroy Sprague and wife Joan of Lincoln, California; extended family, Beth and Clyce Marshall and Ronald Robb; grandson, James C. Becker II and wife Shelsea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John Lamb, Donna Williams, Gary Williams, Betty Sullivan, Bernice Riley, and Lana Rister. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Jones, Joe Guerrero, Helen Roderson, Dennis Roderson and Dan Bubach.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or charity of one's choice.
