Eleanor Jennings Lucas Eilenberger


Eleanor Jennings Lucas Eilenberger, age 98, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Palestine. She was born July 11, 1920 in San Antonio, Texas.
Mrs. Eilenberger first attended TCU and then graduated from Southwest Texas State University.
She married Glenn O. Lucas in San Antonio in 1943. Following her husband's death, she taught eighth grade science in San Antonio public schools.
After marrying Fred Eilenberger in 1970, she moved to Palestine, Texas.
Mrs. Eilenberger was a gifted writer, poet and painter. She won many prestigious awards in East Texas.
She was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church, Acorn Study Club, Palestine Art League, Rusk County Poetry Society, a Palestine writer's critique group, and a Palestine weekly roundtable chaired by Rev. Mike Glenn.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husbands, Glenn O. Lucas Jr. in 1962 and Fred Eilenberger in 1999 and grandson, Geoffrey Lucas. Mrs. Eilenberger is survived by children: Glenn Reagan Lucas, Ann Lucas de Rouffignac, Robert Jackson Lucas, Frances Eilenberger Lindsey, Dorothea Eilenberger Rogillio and Elizabeth Eilenberger Rollins; grandchildren: Jennifer Lucas Black, Reagan Lee Lucas, Philippe de Rouffignac, Remy de Rouffignac, Caroline de Rouffignac, Andrew Lucas, Alexander Lucas, Arlen Lindsey, Anna Lindsey Sheehan, Louise Eleanor Rogillio White and Dabney Rogillio; and fourteen great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will take place in the near future. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
