Funeral services for Ellon Hudson Lewis, age 90, of Palestine are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the Tennessee Colony Community Church. Burial will follow at Tennessee Colony Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Ellon passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Cartmell Home for Aged. She was born on September 27, 1927, to William Thomas Crossley and Sophronia Morrow Crossley in New York, Texas. Ellon graduated from high school at the early age of 16 and years later at age 58, she went back to school to achieve an Associate's Degree. She later worked at the Gas Company and The Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas. She then began working at East Texas National Bank in Palestine where she worked her way up to Vice President and Internal Auditor before her retirement.
Ellon was very involved in her community. She served on the P.I.S.D. school board for three years and was president of the Community Improvement Association of Tennessee Colony. She was a member of Tennessee Colony Community Church and taught Sunday School for 20 years. She also worked with the 4-H kids for 16 years. She served as president of the Toastmasters Club, served on the Business and Professional Women's Committee as well as the Anderson County Heart Association Board and the American Cancer Society Board.
Ellon always said she had lived two beautiful lives. She married Fagan Hudson in her youth, and over 20 years, they built a business together and had 4 children. Their business burned and she lost him in 1970. She met Linden Lewis through banking friends and married him in 1977. He taught her to love to dance. They also enjoyed gardening, retirement, and grandkids together until he passed in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, son William Mack Hudson, and daughter Martha Hudson Hester.
Ellon is survived by her daughters Judy Hudson Trammell of Forney and Mary Hudson Bunt of Mesquite, daughter-in-law Crystal Hudson of Tennessee Colony, son-in-law Bill Hester of Palestine, brothers Buddy Crossley and wife Patsy of Round Rock, Franklin Crossley and wife Sherley of Waxahachie, and Kenneth Crossley and wife Mary of Conroe, 7 grandchildren: Stacy Trammell Hunt, Amy Trammell Paz, Jennifer Brown Lindsey, Mitchell Hudson, Camille Hudson, Ashley Bunt Hale, and William Bunt, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Paz, Richard Hunt, Arlen Lindsey, Corey Hale, Will Bunt, Mason Hunt, and Cameron Hunt. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Lanford and Bill Hester.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 pm on Wednesday prior to the funeral service at Tennessee Colony Community Church.
The family would like to give very special thanks to Eva Cooper, Ellon's beloved friend and caregiver for 7 years, and to family friends Cindy Brown and Bob Lanford who visited Ellon almost every week for the past 7 years.
