Harold "Smokey" Taylor

Services for Harold "Smokey" Taylor 77, of Palestine will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Bailey & Foster Chapel Palestine, with Eddie Jimenez officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Palestine.
Smokey went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 6, 2018. He was born October 16, 1940, in Bronson, Texas. He was the oldest boy of 10 children. Early in his life he went to work to help care for his siblings. Without a formal education and being a self-taught man he was able to achieve many goals he set for himself. He was an avid reader, even in his later years he read and studied the Holy Bible quite regularly.
Smokey served in the United States Air Force, with the 308th Strategic Missile Wing during the early 1960s. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of Palestine. After leaving military service he went into the construction business with his brothers before later venturing out on his own. During the 1980s he was a proud member of the Palestine Building Standards Commission. Smokey taught vocation skills at Texas Department of Corrections ending his career with Flint Construction.
He is preceded in death by his son Roy Edmund Taylor, Sr., granddaughter Toni Lynn Taylor, his parents Elvin Joseph and Ruth Vermell Taylor, his sister Lillian Smith Lanier and brothers Hollis Taylor and Wayne Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Julia Koonce Taylor, brothers John Taylor, Robert Taylor, Lynn Taylor, and sisters Pat Grounds, Sherry Hester and Melba Jones. Children; Carl "Joe" Taylor and wife Pam, Anthony "Tony" Taylor and wife Rachel, Brenda Kay Fox and husband Mike, Laura Ann Wofford and husband Clint, stepsons Robert "Robby" Taylor and wife Gloria and Richard "Ricky" Taylor and wife Mischele, sixteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Condolence calls will be received 1 hour prior to service time at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Saturday, October 13, 2018.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Vietnam Vets of America, 8719 Colesville Rd., Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD, 20910.
