Graveside services for James Edward Gray will be at Providence Cemetery in the Alderbranch Community, Saturday at 2:00 PM. Mr. Gray was a lifelong resident of Anderson County residing in Alderbranch since 1996. He was born in the Scrougeout Community of Anderson County, Texas November 28, 1933 to WF Gray and Emma Jenkins Gray. He departed this life with family at his side January 12, 2017 after a short illness. He attended Myrtle Springs School and graduated from Palestine High School. A veteran of the US Army he was stationed in Germany where he was in the infantry and was subsequently recalled to active duty and given orders to Ft Polk, Louisiana during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked as a route salesman for Sunshine Laundry and Palestine Laundry and Cleaners for many years. He was also employed by Dowell Well Services as a bulk plant operator, eventually retiring from TDCJ in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pattie Gaydon Gray; sons, Steve and wife Marcie of Palestine, Jon and wife Patti of Midland, Joel and wife Leslie of Palestine, 17 grandchildren and his "Little Girl" Isabella. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Doris Allen, Gerald and Randal Gray; son Scott Gray and granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Gray. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family greatly appreciates all those who participated in his care during his illness. All arrangements will be handled by McCoy Funeral Home of Palestine.
