It is with great sadness that the family of James Robert (Bob) Thomas announce his passing after a brief illness on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Providence Medical Health Center in Waco, TX.
Memorial services for Mr. Thomas, age 71, of Palestine are scheduled for 2pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Grace United Methodist Church, 2130 Country Club Rd., Palestine, TX with Pastor Phil Chamberlin officiating.
Bob was born on December 28, 1946, in Pampa, Texas to Raymond John Thomas and Grace Cordelia (Hartwell) Thomas. He attended public schools in Pampa, TX, graduating in 1965. Bob then attended West Texas State University in Canyon, TX graduating in 1970 with a BA degree. Bob is a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving three years with distinction in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972. He loved Palestine, TX and enjoyed spending time at his ranch. He loved life and was always a jokester. Bob was an extremely conservative man. He was a retired mortgage banker having worked for United Guaranty and CMAC and also worked for TDCJ. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Thomas; daughter, Christine Hayes and husband Roger, and step-daughter, Dawn Gibson; step-sons, Marcos Escobar, Andrew Escobar & wife Amber, and Shawn Decker & wife Elizabeth; brothers, David Thomas & wife Betty and John Thomas & wife Darlene; sister, Londa Gilbreath & husband Ron Peterson; grandchildren: Emily Hayes, Evan Hayes, Aubrey Escobar, Brandon Decker, Eisley Escobar, Anabelle Decker, and Abbey Escobar; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
