Jerry Charles Thompson Sr., age 76, was born February 8, 1941 in Tulare, California to Isaac and Lucille Thompson. He married the love of his life, Marlene Jean Evans, on March 30, 1962 in Oakview, California. Later they were blessed with two children. Jerry was employed by Shell Oil Company until his retirement in 1994. He was a retired volunteer fireman from the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Deer Park Masonic Lodge where he was a Master Mason. Mr. Thompson was a member of Crockett Road Church of Christ. Jerry loved to do magic tricks, tell jokes and make people smile. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Thompson; mother, Lucille Borden; step-father, Bill Borden; and brother, Dennis Thompson.
Jerry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Marlene of Palestine, Texas; daughter, Tammy Pike and husband Steve of Palestine, Texas; son, Jerry Thompson Jr. and wife Laura of LaPorte, Texas; grandchildren, Natasha Jadusingh, Kristan Thompson, Evan Thompson and James Pike; and great-grandchildren, Aubree, Wyatt and Kristina.
Funeral services for Jerry Charles Thompson Sr. will be at 3:30 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Dan Manuel officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. preceding the funeral. Interment will follow in Roselawn Park in Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Dale Sparks, Dwight Franklin, David Sparks, Wayne Hamilton, Adam Harding, and Ben Rhone. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles McCullough and Truman Tate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in memory of Jerry Thompson to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
