Jessie, known by his friends as Curtis, was born July 2, 1935 in Hughes Springs, Texas. He spent four years in the United States Air Force serving in Japan for two years. He worked many different jobs including the oilfield, Calhoun Packing Plant, welding, heavy equipment operator and Carter Ranch road maintenance before retiring five years ago. He was a hard worker and his coworkers often told stories how he would always find the hardest job around to tackle.
Curtis was a proud member of Oakwood Church of Christ. He will be remembered dearly by his great grandchildren for the sweet treats he always had for them in his pockets when they came to visit. Being a huge sports fan he traveled thousands of miles throughout the years watching his grandchildren play. Curtis never met a stranger and liked to tell whoever would listen that he and his "bride" had spent sixty one years together something that he was most proud of. He always had a pair of channel lock pliers in his pocket ready to tackle anything that needed "fixing".
Pallbearers include Cass Duck, David Duck, Billy Duck, Johnny Duck, Brandon Bing and TJ Ballard. Honorary pallbearers are coworkers of Carter Ranch, Hughes Springs class of 1954, Dogwood Squares and others.
Visitation is set for Friday, February 17, 2017 from 5-7pm at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine. Services will be Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Oakwood Church of Christ at 2pm in Oakwood, Texas. A graveside service will be held at Duck-Gore Cemetery in Oakwood following the services under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
