Jo Ann's Story

Jo Ann Denson, age 79, of Slocum passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 9th day of July, 2017 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Funeral services for Jo Ann are scheduled for 2 o'clock Thursday, the 13th day of July, 2017 at Rhone Funeral Home with Bro. George Trezise presiding. Interment will follow at Strong Memorial Cemetery in Slocum, Texas.
Jo Ann was born in Purdon, Texas on the 1st day of October, 1937 to the late Hattie and Lawrence Irvin. In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Denson, daughter, Nora Gail Denson, granddaughter, Kassie Denson, son-in-law, David Banks and grandson-in-law, Drew Oddo.
Jo Ann attended Elkhart High School and Palestine School of Nursing. She was an LVN for 35 years working at Palestine Memorial Hospital, Nan Travis Hospital, Grapeland Hospital and Palestine Health Care. She loved spending time with her family and sweet Pomeranian, Brandy. She enjoyed helping people and helped many people through various struggles in their lives.
Jo Ann is survived by her children, Shirley Jeandron (Gil) of Covington, LA, Rhonda Reuter (Dr. Frank Reuter, Jr.) of Tyler, Joe Denson (Emily) of Elkhart, Jake Denson of Palestine, John Denson (Debbie) of Elkhart and Judd Denson of Slocum. Grandchildren, Kathryn Ursenbach, Jennifer Oddo, Stephen Sellers, Matthew Jeandron, Elizabeth Reuter, William Reuter, Mary Helen Reuter, Mitchell Denson, Grace Anne Denson, Diane Vilaysith, Donna Hayes, Jay Denson, Jason Denson, John Denson and Ginger Denson and 17 great grandchildren, sisters, Mary Franks, Weeksie Hudson, brothers, Thomas Irvin and Lawrence Irvin.
Pallbearers will be the Grandchildren and Honorary Pallbearers will be friends at Palestine Health Care Nursing Center.
Visitation will be at Rhone Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening on Wednesday, the 12th day of July, 2017.
Jo Ann loved taking care of people, therefore, in lieu of flowers; donations may be made to a charity of choice.
The children extend a warm appreciation to the Staff at Palestine Regional Hospital, Palestine Health Care and Dr. David Gass and the nurses at ETMC 2WB ICU.
