Services for Joe C. Seckler age 84 of Elkhart will be held with Masonic rites, at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Bro. Vernon King and Bro. Don Stanaland officiating. Burial will follow in Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Elkhart. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Seckler died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at his residence. He was born February 1, 1932 in Bois D' Arc to Joseph Franklin Seckler and Thelma Davis Seckler, and was raised by Shelby and Jettie Pierson.
Mr. Seckler was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force Division . He retired as a Lieutentent from Harris County Sheriff's Office after 24 years of service in law enforcement. He was a Mason for over 50 years, serving as past master of the Woodlands Lodge # 1157 and past master of Elkhart Lodge # 400. He enjoyed western movies and watching Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings, playing golf, hunting, fishing, working in the garden, playing guitar, riding on the tractor, playing music and singing at church.
Mr. Seckler was preceded in death by his parents Shelby and Jettie Pierson, his first wife Doris, second wife Annette, two sons, Jimmy and Mike, great-granddaughter, Morgan, two sisters, Sylvia and Louise, brothers, DA and LB Pierson, and Frank Seckler, nephew John, and step-grandson Bryan.
He is survived by his wife Juanita Tyer Seckler, daughter, Teresa McLeod and husband Doug, daughter-in-law Thelma Sherman, step-children, Anita Parks and husband David Hamm, Sherrie Parks Sarver, David Parks, Kristi Lauw and husband Rick, Meredith Grant and husband Paul, and Greg Curry and wife Barbara, one grandchild Tammy, step-grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Andrea, Harper, Taylor, Eric, Justin, Robert, Austin, Christian and Kaitlin, great grandchildren, Mallorie and Taylor, step-great grandchildren, Rylee, Harley, Skylar, Caiden, Ariel and Lilly, a sister, Evelyn Danner and husband Joe, sister-in-law Angie Pierson and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Taylor Greenwood, Taylor Parks, Justin Sarver, and Austin Sarver, nephews, Steve Clark, Keith Seckler, Bill Beard and Will Dehart. Honorary pallbearers will be retirees from Harris County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Seckler fought a long battle with cancer. The family would like to thank Jordan Home Health Services, Palestine Cancer Center and Solaris Hospice for the kind and generous care they provided during his illness.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
