Funeral services for Dr. John Dow III, age 61, of Elkhart are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wayne Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at Tennessee Colony Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
John passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at his residence. He was born November 11, 1955, in Houston, Texas to John Dow Jr. and Dorothy Shaver Dow. He was a graduate of Palestine High School and Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor's degree and remained on the Dean's list each semester. He continued his education applying at three dental schools, and being accepted to all of them, choosing Baylor College of Dentistry. He later opened his first and only practice in Elkhart spanning 37 years. John was actively involved in coaching youth baseball for over 20 years. He also played on a Texas semi-pro baseball team "The Drillers". While in dental school, John played on a flag football team that won State one year. He loved sports memorabilia and Civil War collectables.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Dow IV. He is survived by his son, Jeb Dow and a sister, Diane Dow.
Condolence calls will be received from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Matt Bridges, Bobby Alexander, Bill Hester, Jerome Courville, Randy Shaver, David Guzman, and Clay Rutledge.
