John  Evans
On Sunday, September 22, 2019, John Elliott Evans, passed away from cancer at his home in Montalba, Texas at the age of 64.
John was born on September 4, 1955 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Dr. John and Joann Evans. As an infant, he lived with his parents in England while his father studied. In 1958, they moved to Houston, Texas where John was reared. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He began his career with Fairmont Foods in Houston where he met his wife of 38 years, Marilyn Lundstrom. He then worked for Brown and Root Corporation as Cash Manager, before beginning their next chapter in East Texas.
In 1988, John and Marilyn moved from Houston to Anderson County and established Lake Creek Blueberry Farm in Montalba where he pursued his passion for farming. During harvest season, they employed high school students as well as others throughout the community to work on the farm. He is known for his patience, involvement in the community and ability to teach. He was a member of the Anderson County Farm Bureau, National Rifle Association, Blueberry Growers Assn, and a supporter of the Anderson County Youth Livestock Association.
As an advocate for Wildlife Management, John was an avid hunter and saltwater fisherman. He learned to love and respect the sport from his father, where together they enjoyed bird hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, mother Joann Evans, brother Tim and wife Judy Evans, his sister Kirsten and husband Mike Knippers, nieces Miranda Knippers and Caroline Kabiri, nephews Leif Knippers and Ricky Kitchell, great nieces Addison and Alyssa Kabiri and great nephew James Kabiri.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Palestine, Texas at 1:00pm.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Herrington/ Land of Memory Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Brookwood Community in Brookshire, Texas.

John became a great friend and customer all the years I owned Foster's Lawn Equipment. Prayers for all the family and am so sorry for your loss.
