Lawrence's Story

Lawrence John Stokes born on November 12, 1938, the son of Lawrence and Sybil Ivie King Stokes of Houston, Texas was carried in the arms of angels to be with his Lord and Savior on August 17, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. He was surrounded by his children with prayers for a safe journey home. He resided at Stonebridge Health Center in Austin, TX for the last three years. John was known as Dad, Grandad, Great Grand, Brother, Uncle and friend to many who knew and loved him. In 1958 John joined the Army to serve with his mother who was in the Women's Army Corp stationed at Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas. Johnny received his license while working in the Dental Technician Program. In 1962, Johnny moved to the Idyllwild Mountain area in California that he loved so much. He enjoyed taking his family to places like Disney Land, The Redwood Forest, Long Beach and on picnics at various scenic parks and popular areas in the region. Johnny owned and operated Crowns By John Dental Laboratory in Corsicana, Texas for many years Johnny is survived by his sons Lawrence Johnny Stokes, Jr. of Austin, Texas, Ricky Allen Stokes of Amarillo, Texas, Jimmy Lawrence Stokes of Edmond, Oklahoma and formerly Grapeland, Texas. He is also survived by daughters Cathy Lynn Stokes Russell of Midland, Texas, formerly of Palestine, Texas, Vicky Janette Stokes Dickehut of Austin, Texas, Julie Annette Stokes Palmer of Austin, Texas, ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, a sister Mary Branham of Chase, Virginia, brother Howard Blue of Spring, Texas.
