Better known as "Tip", Reese was born January 29, 1927 in Palestine, Texas to Fred and Dell Tippen.
Reese quit school in 1943 at the age of 16 to help support his ailing father, mother, brother and sister. He began work with Knox Glass full time as the youngest employee. After almost a year of employment, he talked his mother into signing for him to enlist in the Navy. He served on the USS Miami as a radar operator. He loved telling the stories of the 3 days at sea that no one could go top side because of the typhoon. He also talked about being docked outside the island of Truk when the war ended. He returned to Palestine after the war picking up where he left off working for the glass company 40 years retiring in 1984 at the age of 57. He was the first 40 year employee for the company. Reese then spent the next 15 years mowing lawns and was the Mr. Fixit of the neighborhood.
He meets the love of his life in 1947, Joy Brooks and married in 1948. Through rocky times they managed to carry their love for each other 69 years. Joy and Reese loved family gatherings, great times with friends and there were many. Both of them loved to dance, for many years, you could find them every Saturday night at the VFW.
To their union, they were blessed with one daughter, Gayla. She carries her dad's love for hunting and fishing. It did not matter what Gayla was involved in, softball, riding horses, hunting, fishing, dad was always there.
He shared the same love with his grandson, Scooter ( Peaknuckle) and granddaughter Kori (baby girl). The deer lease was always fun times with granddaddy. He was always there for soccer games, t-ball and dance or piano recitals to support the grandchildren.
Reese was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Don Tippen and brother in law, C A Dodson.
