Services for Mac E. Vannatta age 96 of Oakwood will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the First Christian Church of Oakwood with
Rev. Doug Stevens and Rev. John Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr. Vannatta passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at Paradise Springs in Spring. He was born September 12, 1920 in Oakwood, TX. to Leslie E. Vannatta and Myrtle J. Johnson Vannatta. Mac graduated from Oakwood High School and went on to college until the start of World War II. At that time he joined the U.S. Navy where he stayed until after the war in 1946. Mac married Ann Childress after high school and they had a wonderful 60 plus years of marriage until Ann's passing in 2001. Mac spent 30 years living and working in Houston. He was in the electrical supply business. He and Ann moved back to Oakwood in 1974. They lived on their ranch and raised cattle for a number of years. Mac loved to hunt and fish. He spent many happy days at his lake house on Stanmire Lake. The First Christian Church in Oakwood was very important to him and was another place he loved to be.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Leslie Vannatta. He is survived by his son Michael Vannatta and daughter-in-law, Barbara Vannatta, two grandchildren Molly Vannatta and Andy Vannatta and wife Kristi. Molly has three children, Jake Eaves, Owen Rodriquez and Ty Johnson, Andy and Kristi have three children, Hayden, Hudson, and Haylee Vannatta.
Pallbearers will be Andy Vannatta, Jake Eaves, Owen Rodriquez, Bob Coons, Bob Peters, Herman Teinert and Brent Bing.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, 207 S. Magnolia, Palestine, TX. 75801.
