Robert Lee Humphrey, age 95, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Cartmell Home for Aged. He was born December 13, 1922 to Thomas Grover (Dick) Humphrey and Jettie Alma Hutcherson Humphrey in Anderson County Texas. He graduated from Montalba High School in 1940. He played baseball for the Palestine Pals. On June 27, 1942 he married Verna Ray Gambrell. They had three children: Larry, Debra and Janet. Robert was retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a machinist. He loved farming - raising cattle and donkeys and always had a garden which he shared with his friends. Mr. Humphrey was a life long member of Lone Pine Baptist Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Verna Ray and son Larry, his brothers Bill and Ben Humphrey and his sisters Elna Douglass and Mildred Calcote.
He is survived by his daughters Debra and husband, Terry George of Humble. Janet and husband Daniel Robbins of Palestine and his grandchildren Andrea Fossey of Palestine, Leslie and husband Chad Thompson of Humble, Teri Lynn and husband Jeff Pruitt of Humble, and Robert Bowden of Fort Worth, two great grandsons, Blake Thompson and Connor Pruitt both of Humble, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday January 5th from 6-8pm at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be Saturday January 6th at 10:00am at Lone Pine Baptist Church, with Dr. Ron Sloan officiating, with internment to follow at Land Of Memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Coy White, Donald Sloan, Cliff Johnson, Andy Link, Ricky Naismith, and Dr. Rick Webb.
