Thomas "Tommy" Thorn, age 88 passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Mother Frances Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 28, 1929.
He served in the United States Navy as an aerial photographer during the Korean War. He graduated from Baylor University with a business degree and attended LSU School of Banking. He spent 30 years in banking and ended his work career as an accountant at Texas Correctional Industries. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Palestine, TX.
On October 8, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Mellie Joyce Wood. They had two children, Terry M. Thorn and wife Jessie, and David Steven Thorn and wife Cathie all of Palestine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Walker Thorn and Mary Shelnutt. He is survived by his wife, two sons, six grandchildren Brian Thorn and wife Jamie, Jonathan Thorn and wife Toni, John Thorn and wife Sarah, Brandon Jayroe and wife Daisy, Chance Nichols and wife Trisha and Ted Nichols and wife Jennifer, twenty great grandchildren, sister Shirley Robinson and husband Conrad, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church of Palestine. Funeral service to follow at 2:00 P.M at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Alex Lupo officiating. Interment will follow at Palestine City Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Smith, Jonathan Thorn, John Thorn, Joe Bryant, Andrew Johnson and George McIntyre. Honorary pallbearers are all members of the Victor Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Palestine, Texas or to a charity of choice.
