Velesta Granny June Black On Sunday, February 24, 2019, Velesta June Black passed away at the age of 82 years. She was born on January 5, 1937 in Scurry County, Texas.
Velesta married her high school sweetheart James "Red" Black on July 2, 1955 in Snyder, Texas. They had 3 children. While raising her children, she baked bread and sold it out of her home. She was active in the church choir and helped in the church library. Velesta was an avid quilter and enjoyed cooking and learning to cook foods from other cultures. She loved spending time with her family and was especially proud of her kids and grandkids. She bragged about them immensely.
Velesta was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed, but her family is rejoicing in her going home to her heavenly father.
Velesta was preceded in death by her husband, James "Red" Black; her parents, Weldon W. Sumruld and Bennie Stokes Sumruld.
Velesta is survived by her children, Toby D. Black of Palestine, TX, Darla Turner and husband Tony of Colorado City, TX, and Rita Black of Azle, TX; sister, Vondell Bourland and husband Barry and brother, Lorell Sumruld and wife Dee; grandchildren, Emmalyn Hooser, Angela Strickland and husband Brian, Ashley Johnson and husband Robert, Paden Black and wife Kristy, Shelbi Baker and husband Clay, Mylia Black, and Sebastian Turner; great grandchildren, Kyndall Davis, Alexis Johnson and Kirby Baker.
A Celebration of Life for Velesta Black will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at 8:00 PM at the Evangelistic Temple with Pastor Danny Rodriquez officiating.
