Graveside services for Vernell King, 78, of Palestine will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with Pastor Mike Drinkard officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. King passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by friends and family on Friday, November 4, 2016.
Mrs. King was born March 7, 1938, in Colmesneil, Texas to Albert M. Newman and Bessie Graham Newman. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Earl David King; and son, Larry Dwayne King.
She is survived by her sister, Nelwyn Robbins and husband of Alvin; son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Tammy Vaughn of Palestine; daughter-in-law and fiancée, Dawn King and Jeffrey Culver of Austin; grandchildren: Jennifer of Connecticut, Tiffany, Jeanna, Jimmy, Amber and Justine of Palestine, Samuel of Tyler, Thomas of Trinity; and also many close family friends she held near and dear to her heart including Cindy Monk and Crista and Curtis Lane all of Palestine
Mrs. King was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She worked in many service oriented jobs during her lifetime however, her focus in life first and foremost was God's plan for her life. Her kindness as a pastor's wife touched an untold number of lives. She strived on a daily basis to put others' needs before herself. During her time as a pastor's wife she had the opportunity to participate in multiple mission trips either firsthand or in a supportive role. Many lives were blessed by her work for the Lord.
The family would like to thank the medical staff who was a part of her care and give a special thanks to Todi Auker of Hospice Plus for her care and compassion in the final stages of her life.
