Viola Grafton Bisby, 82, of Palestine, Texas passed away peacefully on August 16, 2017, at her home holding the hand of family by her side.
Viola, "Vi", daughter of Mary Etta Pennington of Grapeland and Troy Lewis of Elkhart, was born in Palestine, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Claude Madison Bisby. She is survived by her sister Vivian Patton, her brother Jeff Lewis, her three children Vivian, Troy, Della, her two stepdaughters, Debbie and Claudia, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Viola was a tax preparer for H&R Block for twenty years before retiring in her late seventies. "Vi" was the "go to girl." She was the only female in two classes of aeronautics and advanced math at the Palestine High School in the 1950's. She said, "I just wanted to go where the boys were." Blessed with musical talents and a voice of song, she humbled to not boast herself. She was an avid reader and loved the crossword puzzles of the local paper. She played many games of bridge here in Palestine with her buddies she loved. Viola was a beloved mother, mentor, March of Dimes volunteer, bowling champion, and friend to many.
A memorial service will be held at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.
