Cathleen's Story

Text size

Cathleen Ann (Wischmeyer) Newman, age 68, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away peacefully at her home on March 21, 2017 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on March 1, 1949 to the late Henry and Rita Wischmeyer, being third of eight children. After graduating from Ursuline Academy of Dallas, TX, Cathy embarked on a life that took her from Dallas to the piney woods of East Texas, with stops in Palestine, TX and Longview, TX, finally settling in the Atlanta, GA area.
Cathy proved herself a devoted mother and grandmother, a savvy businesswoman and, ultimately, a passionate teacher specializing in reading. After graduating from UT Tyler she taught at Crisman School in Longview, TX. She eventually moved to Atlanta, GA area and continued teaching as a reading specialist while earning her master's degree. An avid gardener, Cathy loved nothing more than strolling through her beautiful backyard with friends and family, talking about her latest plans and plantings.
In her later years, Cathy took up crocheting and had given her family and friends blankets and scarfs they will treasure forever. She is survived by a large, loving family who will miss her immensely: daughter Cristy Stolle, son-in-law David and grandchildren, Blake, Emily and William of Plano, TX; daughter Stephanie Silva, son-in-law Daniel and grandchildren Kaylee and Olivia Hale of Hallsville, TX; sister Karen Wischmeyer of South Weymouth, MA; sister Susan Rooke (Bob) of Plano, TX; sister Teresa Wischmeyer of Salina, KS; sister Betsy Munse (Scott) Plano, TX; brother Chip Wischmeyer (Chery Henderson) of Austin, TX; brother Mark Wischmeyer (Monica) of Dallas; and sister Gina Totah (Bill) of Austin, TX. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Calvary Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, www.pancan.org.
