David Dean Prather passed away and entered the gates of Heaven on October 12, 2016 after a long courageous battle with several terminal illnesses. He fought heroically while always worrying about his beautiful bride and our family before himself. David D. Prather was born to Samuel Oscar Prather and Clovie Lois (Hudgens) Prather Sides in Van, Texas on February 24, 1945. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, sister, Ruby Prather Storey, and brother's, Herman Dale Prather, Gilbert Edgar Prather, and Samuel Clifford Prather.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Mrs. Bonnie Hamilton Prather, who resides in Palestine, Texas; his three dearly beloved daughters, Stephanie Vineyard Wagner and son-in-law Pat Wagner from Palestine, Texas; Melissa (Missy) Prather Chapman and son-in-law Ben Chapman from Tyler, Texas; and Chanda Prather-Lalonde and son-in-law CAPT. Cory Lalonde from Eunice, Louisiana.
He is also survived by five grandchildren: Eric Justin Malone and wife Amanda Malone; Macayla Brooke Richardson; Keeley SueAnn Richardson; Amber Nicole Finley and husband Jarrod Finley. Ashley Simpson; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; his sister Saundra Mae Prather Clark of Tyler, Texas; and Aunt Geneva Prather King of Athens, Texas
David graduated in 1964 from Van High School, Van, Texas, Home of the Vandals. He began his career at TP&L in August of 1965. He went on to make that his life long career and retired after 44 plus years from ONCOR. After retirement, he went on to live out his lifelong dream of being a rancher and enjoyed the farm life to the fullest extent.
He was called to serve as a deacon at Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted that position and faithfully served his church family as a prayer warrior and always encouraging others. He used his gift of operating and running equipment for church projects. He and his wife are members of the Senior Adult Sunday School class where he took an active role and was the center of attention and always picking on someone. He was always the entertainer and when he was around there was never a dull moment.
A Memorial Celebration Service will be officiated by Brother Randall Reeves at 2:00 pm Saturday October 15, 2016, at Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 8413 FM 322 N, Palestine, TX 75801
There will be no visitation scheduled.

While we are heavy with sorrow, we take great joy in knowing that even though our journey with him on earth has come to an end, his suffering is done and his journey, with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven, has only just begun. "Daddy, this is not goodbye, it is just see you later".
