David's Story

David T. Rayner Jr., age 92, passed away on May 30, 2017, at his home. David was born April 30, 1925 in Wilmington, DE to David T. Rayner, Sr. and Martha Nickerson Rayner. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Yates Cemetery in Scottsville, TX with military honors. Memorial services will follow at Trinity Episcopal Church at 2:00 PM officiating will be Father John Himes. Visitation will be after the service.
Mr. Rayner graduated from Tower Hill, in 1943 the same year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Deuel in the Pacific during WWII in the battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In 1946 after he was discharged he returned home and enrolled at the University of Delaware. Mr. Rayner was reacquainted with Jeanne, his future wife, years after attending 6th grade with her. They wed in 1950. Mr. Rayner graduated in 1951 as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and they moved to Milwaukee, WI and started working for Allis Chalmers. They returned to Wilmington in 1953 and were transferring to Marshall, TX in 1963.
Mr. Rayner was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jeanne Evans Rayner; and his sister, Jane R. Groo. He is survived by his children, David T. Rayner, III and wife Jackie, Rev. Lois Rayner Maberry and husband Ron; grandchildren, Holly Maberry Johnson and husband Adam, Ashley Rayner Eason and husband Blake, Marcie Rayner Tunstall and husband Canon, Matthew Nickerson Maberry and wife Robin, Andrew Ash Maberry, David T. Rayner IV and wife Kayla; and great-grandchildren, Mabry, Cash, Steel, and Madelyn Jeanne; and his precious pet Celo.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
