Services for Leland N. Douthit age 91 of Elkhart will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Rev. Bill Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Douthit died Friday at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living. Leland Nathan Douthit was born to Mabel Priscilla Barthel and Clarence Ephener Douthit on May 15, 1925 in Elkhart, Texas. He was raised on a farm and worked in his family's dairy business. Later in life he worked for the tile factory in Palestine and retired from the City of Palestine where he worked at the water treatment plant for 23 years. He loved the simple life of living on the farm raising a garden and tending to the cattle. He was a member of the Swanson Hill Community Church. He served in the US Army in WWII as a mechanic in a motor pool in Korea, he said he was always fortunate to have the opportunity to do so. He enjoyed his conversations with his friends and loved a good gospel singing.
Mr. Douthit was preceded in death by his parents, son Eddie Lee, brothers, Boyd, Homer, Milton and Melvin Douthit, a son-in-law Ronnie Green. He is survived by his devoted wife Johnye of 43 years. His children, Charles Douthit and wife Kathy of Waco, Pat Douthit Green of Palestine, Betty Wortham and husband Tim of Palestine, Marsha Snow Sanchez of Cedar Park, and step daughter Lillie Broughton and husband Mike of Grapeland, grandchildren, Shane Farrar, Michael Lomax, Clint McCarty, Kyle Douthit, Jesse Gause, Triston Sanchez, Kaylee Myers, Jocelyn Snow, Lillene Crum, and Larry Pelham, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Palestine.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Swanson Hill Community Church or to a charityof choice.
