Millard's Story

Millard Cornelius Humphrey, age 78, died Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Hospice of East Texas, Tyler, Texas following a long illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Cathy (Johnson) Humphrey; his children: son Jimmy Humphrey and wife Desiree of Alcoa, Tennessee, daughter Deanna Humphrey Greene of Eastland, Texas; and three step-children he considered his own: Kyle Johnson and wife Aimee of Elkhart, Texas, Timothy Johnson and wife Heather of Harvest, Alabama, and Dana Johnson Rosen and husband Stuart of Brenham, Texas; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Liza Elliott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Millard was born June 23, 1938 in Jefferson, Texas the son of Henry and Ruth Humphrey. He served our nation honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1975. Following his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer, he earned Bachelor and Master degrees from Tarleton State University and subsequently taught High School Agriculture in Lingleville, Huckaby, and Oakwood, Texas. He also taught Industrial Technology at Westwood Junior High in Palestine, Texas until his retirement from education in 1996.
Millard had an unwavering passion for educating and developing young men and women along with coaching youth sports, Future Farmers of America (FFA) competitions and taking every available opportunity to mentor youth in participation of community activities.
His family and friends will celebrate his life with a service to be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel, Palestine, Texas at 1:00 PM and burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Oakwood, Texas. Condolences will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Humphrey, Kyle Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Tucker Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Jon Perkins, Zack Johnson, and Stuart Rosen.
