Elkhart, Texas - Danny Drue Cates was born July 17, 1962, to James and Linda Cates. He and his brother Dale were raised in Buffalo, Texas. He enjoyed playing the piano, hunting, working with cows, riding horses and skeet shooting. He worked most of his life in the oil field industry until he retired in 2014. He remarried his high school sweetheart, Cindy Bess Cates in 2015. They lived in Palestine and Elkhart until his death on August 1, 2025, when he passed away peacefully at home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Linda Cates; brother, Dale Cates; uncle, Harvey Cates; aunt, Louise Cates; and cousin, Bootsie Cates. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Cates; children, Daniel (Alyx) Cates of Pinehurst, Danny, Sara and Stacy Cates of Houston; stepchildren, TJ Hudson, Melissa Cates, Brianna Westley, Sierra (Alec) Wilson, Aimee (Tim) Aldrich, Cody Land; aunt, Pat Cates of Buffalo; cousin, Cindy Hillis of Buffalo; and numerous grandchildren.

Services for Danny will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine beginning with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Darryl Conner officiating. The burial will take place at Buffalo City Cemetery.
