Del Freida Fincher Wages Obituary

Palestine, Texas - Del Freida Fincher Wages, 89, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025. Born on January 5, 1936, in Anderson County, she was the first born child to Ben Fincher and Lorene Shaver Fincher.

A graduate of Elkhart High School, Class of 1953, Del Freida went on to build a beautiful life rooted in faith and family. She married James "Jimmy" Wages, with whom she shared 53 joyful years of marriage. Together, they raised a loving family and created a lifetime of treasured memories, especially during the annual family vacations to Colorado. Estes Park held a special place in their hearts, and as their sons grew older, the family continued to return to the mountains, often joined by friends and loved ones.

Del Freida is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: James Randolph "Randy" Wages, Jr. and wife Kristy, and Stan Allen Wages and wife Chastity. She was a proud grandmother to Hunter Wages, Meg Wages, Matthew Wages, Benjamin Wages, Trevor Fillip,Trenton Fillip, and great grandson Kolt Farrell.

She is also survived by her sister, Betty McCann, and her brother, Arvel "Pon" Fincher of Elkhart, Texas, along with numerous nieces and extended family members.

A lifelong member of Walston Springs Baptist Church, Del Freida's faith was the foundation of her life. She was a member of Memory Lane Baptist Church but was unable to attend due to her health for the last couple of years. She was first baptized as a young girl in Lake Mary.

Del Freida dedicated 25 years of her life to the Palestine Independent School District, retiring. She worked as support staff to the school district's administrative offices and internal offices.

She will be remembered for the love she poured into her family, often expressed through her delicious home-cooked meals and the open table she always kept ready for her sons' friends. But most of all, she will be deeply missed by those who knew her simply as Mom and Nannie.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Land of Memory Cemetery with John Rushing and Homer Bentley officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
