Jerry Lynn Jenkins
Jerry Lynn Jenkins, age 79, resident of Palestine, Texas, passed from this world to his new home with Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 17th, 2019, at 8:57 p.m. He fought a long hard battle with cancer.
Jerry was a jack-of-all-trades and master of quite a few. He received his Bachelor's Degree in music from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and his Masters Degree in music from the University of Houston. The trumpet was his primary instrument. He was the band director in various schools including Clear Creek Jr. High, La Marque High School, Story Middle School, Palestine Jr. High, Dallas Baptist College, and Carson-Newman Baptist College in East Tennessee. He was also a business man, at one time owning a small asphalt company and several health food stores, and rental property.
His biggest love however, was being involved in mission activities, taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to various places around the world. His travels took him and his wife Angela to Mexico, Guatemala, Austria, Eastern Europe and finally Kazakhstan where they spent six years as independent missionaries. He is survived by Angela, his wife of 59 years; daughter Erin and husband Luca Scordari, former owners of Custom Catering and Fig Tree Manor; and son, Paul Jenkins, a songwriter in Nashville, Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at Evangelistic Temple in Palestine. In place of floral gifts, donations may be made to Pleasant Hills Children's Home (P.O. Box 1177, Fairfield, TX 75840).

Angela, I am sorry for the loss of Jerry, he was a fine fellow and I enjoyed working with him many years ago.
I am hope-ful that you gather your children and friends around you and be able to go forward. I lost my beloved Surita in 2015 to cancer. My life the past four years since has been positive however thanks to my family - we all live in the same area. I'm praying for you. Phillip Hatton, Lewisville

My condolences on your loss. Mr. Jenkins taught me to play the alto saxophone when I was in the 6th grade at Story School.
He was a good teacher and a good man. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My condolences to the family. I met him in the 7th grade at Story School. He switched me from alto sax to bari sax because I was “the only person big enough to hold it up.” I secretly believe he was tired of hearing me try, and fail, to hit the G and switched me to protect his sanity. Thank you for sharing him with me all those years ago.
