Johnye Louise Vineyard Kobar Obituary
Palestine, Texas - Johnye Louise Vineyard Kobar born February 11, 1926 to Doc Raymond and Lulah Vineyard in Palestine, Texas where she lived most of her life. She was an only child. She graduated from Palestine High School where she played the clarinet in the marching band. She went to college at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Tx for about a year.
She worked as a secretary for the US Army Air Corps at Ellington Field in Houston, Texas during WWII. She met the love of her life Alex Kobar who was in the Navy. They married May 25, 1946 and celebrated 70 years of marriage. Alex preceded Johnye in death on July 31, 2016. She is survived by 2 children - a son Paul Kobar, his wife Sue and their son Dave, wife Loren and two great grandchildren Sarsha and William and Paul's step-daughter Tracy, her husband Carey and three sons Ben, Lucas and Joel. A daughter Elizabeth Kobar Whitley and her son Joshua and two great grandchildren Kira and Logan. And many nieces and nephews.
Johnye was the bookkeeper at the Jay Shop in Palestine and Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. In the mid 60's she went to work as a teller and bookkeeper for the First National Bank and worked her way up to Vice President until she retired from there September 1995.
They lived on Park Avenue for almost 70 years. She has resided at Legacy Town Creek since January 2024.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jonathan Frels officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Bailey & Foster Chapel, 207 S. Magnolia, Palestine, Texas.
