Mary Elaine (Bailey) Cox Obituary

Mary was born October 12, 1932 to Omah (Vance) and Luther Bailey. She was a life-long member of the Montalba Christian Church where she played piano and organ, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She met her husband Rev. Samuel R. Cox through the church when he came to preach as a young man out of seminary. After Sam's retirement she made many more friends at the First Christian Church in Palestine and First Christian Church in Oakwood where Sam would preach when needed.

Mary was a bookkeeper for most of her life. With her final job at the Anderson County Courthouse in the auditor's office, eventually becoming the County Auditor. A job she held until her retirement.

She enjoyed being with people and spent her retirement visiting her friends old and new at the various nursing homes up until she was no longer able to drive. She also loved animals having many pets over her life-time.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and niece Jeretta. Those she leaves behind are her daughters Karen and Sandra, sister Billie and nieces Debbie (Tom) and Lisa (Randy) also many family members and friends.

Thank you to all the people at Dogwood Trails Memory Care and Solaris Hospice for all you have done.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Steve Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. before the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Montalba Christian Church.
