Mitchell Louis Pouncy
Mr. Mitchell Louis Pouncy, 89, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and formerly of Palestine, Anderson County, Texas was born to the parentage of Dee and Detroit Denman Pouncy
on April 3, 1930 in Palestine. He was the third of five children born to this blessed union.
During his formative years, Mitchell Louis was educated in the public schools of Palestine and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. He was class salutatorian.
After graduation he enrolled at Prairie View A & M University, Prairie View, Texas from
which he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. Later, he entered Atlanta University, now Clark-Atlanta University, Atlanta, Georgia and earned a Master of Library Science Degree.
At an early age, Mitchell Louis united with the church and was baptized. During his youth and young adult life he was an active member at South Union Missionary Baptist Church. During his tenure in Baton Rouge, he was affiliated with the Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
In 1952, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, earning the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged.
His years of employment, 40 plus, were as Reference Librarian at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
His demise was on July 29, 2019 at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living and Memory Care in Palestine, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Riley D.
Pouncy of Houston, Texas and the Reverend Rayford B. Pouncy of Denver, Colorado.
Services will be Monday, August 5, 2019 in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne A. Moffitt, Jr. officiating. Viewing will take place Sunday from 2 PM to 6 PM in the chapel. The interment will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000
Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
Mitchell Louis leaves to cherish his memories, two devoted sisters, Mrs. Veneta D. Pouncy Reeves (Alex, Sr.) of Los Angeles, California, Georgia L. Pouncy of Palestine,
Texas; nieces, nephews and a vast number of relatives and friends. Special thanks to: McCoy Funeral Home, The Staff at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living and Memory Care,
Hospice Plus, Pastor Moffitt, Jr., South Union Missionary Baptist Church and Dr. Michael S. Gorby.

May he rest in peace and a beneficent God bless his beautiful soul.
Final arrangements are entrusted to McCoy Funeral Home, 501 W. Oak Street, Palestine, Texas 75801.
