Reed Alan Dobbins
Reed Alan Dobbins was born March 28,1960 in Birmingham, AL. Following a stalwart battle with cancer, he passed away October 16, 2019. During grade-school, his family moved to Tyler. He was a 1978 Robert E. Lee graduate. At a young age, he founded Auto Sound in Tyler then later attended TJC and UT Tyler obtaining Bachelor's of Science and Masters of Psychology. For 30+ years, he was a dedicated employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and thought of many co-workers as family.
Hobbies included motorcycle riding, shooting guns, classic cars and making moonshine. With each hobby, he educated himself and strove to obtain the most knowledge and best equipment available. He enjoyed spending time with his closest friends and some family, but he was very much a loner and required quite time - simply cleaning guns, doing yard work, detailing his vehicles (he was very particular about his vehicles) or spending time at "The FEMA". He loved watching TV and would frequently tell others, "Oh, I don't have time for that today. Mindy, the cat and I have 10,000 shows to watch" or "I have chores - don't YOU ever have chores?" He was a sentimental person and kept multiple mementoes, even a childhood cookbook he made for his mom titled "The Burp & Slurp Family Cookbook" - "So you can always cook us something we like, and we don't eat like horses at a trough." He flew an American flag daily and felt everyone else should too. His quick wit, uncanny sense of humor and sheer skill at story telling were some of his greatest traits. For those that loved him, our gatherings will always be lacking without his presence.
Reed lived life by his own rules, marched to the beat of his own drum, faced cancer and passed away on his own terms. For those of us who had the privilege of calling him friend, our lives are filled with cherished memories and forever blessed for knowing him.
Survivors include daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Thedford and fiancé Jerry Phillip "JP" Beaudet. Bonus children Son Chris English, Kimberly Elzey and Ashley Elzey. Brother Eric Dobbins and wife, Betty; Bobby Dobbins and wife, Jenny. Grandchildren Taylor Elzey, Gracie Stone, Lexie McCaslin, Austyn Thedford and Kaylee Beaudet. Nephews, Nick and Daniel Dobbins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Dobbins and wife, Suzanne Elzey.
