Virginia  Matlage
Virginia Meyer Matlage passed away on October 13, 2019 at 101 years old. Born April 23, 1918 in Austin, she lived in Palestine as a child and also later in life with her husband. Virginia attended Rice University where she met her husband W.T. Matlage. They were married 74 years. While in Texas City she was active in the Girl Scouts. In Palestine she served on the board of the Museum for East Texas Culture. She was a talented artist and loved to paint. Her husband and brother Jimmy Meyer preceded her in death. Virginia is survived by her sister Ruthie Wilson, her daughter Tracey Matlage Calvert and husband Jerry of Winnsboro, her son Mike Matlage and wife Gloria of Santa Fe. Her grandchildren Mitchell Calvert , Melinda Rainwater, Christopher Matlage, and Megan Crumby and husband Dustin, great-grandchildren Ashley Rainwater, Audrey Rainwater, Cameron Oberg, Konner Matlage, Adisyn Crumby, Arlo Calvert and Felix Calvert. A graveside memorial will be held on November 30 at 11:00 A.M. at Roselawn Park on FM 1137 and US Hwy.84 East.
