William Gerald DeShazo Obituary

Elkhart, Texas - William Gerald DeShazo, 96, of Elkhart passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 8, 2025. Gerald was born on January 3, 1929, in Saltillo, TX to William Luther DeShazo and Lena Mae Ward DeShazo.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Veda Marie Coleman DeShazo in 2021 and his brother, James Derwin DeShazo in 2022. Gerald is survived by 2 children: William Kent DeShazo and Debra Suzanne Hudson. 4 grandchildren: Amy Plocek, Laura VanderVoort, William DeShazo and Peggy Paul and 10 great grandchildren.

Gerald lived a long and full life. He was a graduate of Elkhart High School and the University of Houston. He had a distinguished career in Houston working for Gulf Oil/Chevron, responsible for product distribution before retiring to the ranch life in Elkhart in 1987. He was a member of the Elkhart Masonic Lodge 400 as a Master Mason. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Palestine, TX.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2pm at the Myrtle Springs Cemetery of Elkhart. Services are in the care of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.

The pallbearers will be William DeShazo, Ethan DeShazo, Rick Scholze, Josh Paul, John VanderVoort and Alex Plocek.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any memorial donations or contributions be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children.
